Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef with a small amount of butter, crumbling it as it cooks. Once cooked, drain any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onions to the pan and stir well. Cook for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and mix in the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, and onion powder.
- Spread half of the slices of bread with butter and cut them in half. Place them butter-side down in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the bread. Evenly spread the meat mixture over the cheese. Top with the remaining cheese.
- Spread the remaining slices of bread with butter, cut in half, and place butter-side up on top of the casserole.
- Bake in the oven until the top is golden brown, about 20-24 minutes.
