  1. Dice the ham into small cubes.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and place the rack in the middle position.
  3. Grease a quiche dish with butter and sprinkle evenly with bread crumbs.
  4. In a 12-inch heavy skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the onions and ham and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly golden, about 5 minutes.
