- Put the lentils in the pan with 800 ml cold water, bring to the boil, then skim off any scum, add the turmeric and salt. Lower the heat and simmer, uncovered, for about 15 minutes, stirring from time to time until the lentils have broken down to the puree.
- When The Dhal Is Almost Done, Heat The Oil In The Pan And Fry The Cumin Seeds Until Fragrant. Add The Halved And Sliced Onions And fry until brown.
- Mix the two together, adjust the seasoning and serve.
